Kawai NOVUS NV10 Hybrid Digital Grand
Delivering a true grand piano experience, the NOVUS NV10S Hybrid digital piano combines our cutting-edge Millennium III acoustic grand piano keyboard action with the latest SK-EX Rendering piano sound engine. Preserving the unique harmonic characteristics of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano is specialized high-resolution filtering and amplification technology developed in collaboration with the audio experts at Onkyo. The result is the most realistic piano experience ever achieved in a digital instrument.
The Millennium III Hybrid Action, the first in our industry to provide an authentic damper mechanism, truly replicates the realistic weighting and feel of a grand piano damper pedal.
The NV10S also offers built-in Bluetooth® MIDI for seamless audio connectivity and a crisp 5” LCD touchscreen display with an upgraded user interface neatly embedded in the left side panel. Its strikingly beautiful polished ebony cabinet gives pianists the impression of playing a professional grand piano while occupying less floor space than a standard upright. Play the NOVUS NV10S and experience the tonal and aesthetic beauty of this revolutionary instrument.
Millennium III Hybrid Grand Piano Keyboard Action
The NV10S utilizes Kawai’s exclusive grand piano hybrid action, featuring innovative carbon fiber components that are stronger, faster and lighter than conventional wooden parts. Elongated key sticks provide greater control for the pianist and extruded action rails assure more stability.
Distinctively adapted in the NV10S is the Millennium III Hybrid grand piano action. Nearly identical to Kawai’s famously responsive grand piano actions, the traditional felt hammers are replaced with ABS equivalents that are individually weighted and balanced from bass to treble. High precision optical sensors take the place of metal strings, which precisely read the subtle movements of each hammer as the corresponding keys are played.
Grand Piano Damper Mechanism
In addition to an authentic grand piano action, the Novus NV10S incorporates a real grand piano damper mechanism for additional realism. While there are no strings inside the NV10S that would require physical damping, this unique feature faithfully replicates the true motion and weighting of a grand piano damper pedal. As the pedal is depressed the keyboard action’s touch weight is also eased for further grand piano authenticity.
Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Concert Grand Piano Sound
The magnificent tone of Kawai’s flagship piano, the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano, is at the heart of the NV10S hybrid digital piano. Widely regarded as the ‘Premier Pianos of Japan’ the Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions throughout the world. The Novus NV10S provides the tonal clarity and dynamic range of the revered Shigeru Kawai grand pianos.
To faithfully reproduce the stunning sound of a Shigeru grand piano digitally, Kawai developed SK-EX Rendering –a meticulously robust piano sound engine that combines multi-channel, 88-key sampling with the latest modeling technology. Multi-channel sampling captures the sound from different points of the Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano, allowing a broader range of tonal characteristics to be reproduced. This provides a more lively, authentic response to changes in dynamics. This naturally expressive sound is further enriched by newly developed resonance algorithms which physically model the complex tonal interactions produced by strings, pedals, and various other parts of an acoustic piano. These technological advances give players the impression that they’re sitting at a living, breathing instrument.
Large Selection of Acoustic Piano Sounds and Instrument Voices
In addition to the latest SK-EX rendering piano sound engine, the Novus NV10S hybrid digital piano also incorporates Kawai’s highly regarded Harmonic Imaging XL technology. This allows a diverse variety of acoustic piano sounds and a robust selection of additional instrument voices. The Kawai EX full concert grand has a full-bodied tone familiar to pianists the world over while the SK-5 chamber grand and K-600 upright piano allow pianists to enjoy contrasting tonal characteristics of various piano sizes and voicing configurations.
Supplementing these realistic acoustic piano voices, the Novus NV10S hybrid digital piano also features a wide selection of additional instrumental sounds. Ranging from electric pianos, drawbar and church organs, strings, human voices, synth sounds, and more, these voices invite musicians to add greater variety and creativity to their performances.
Adding more versatility, the Dual playing mode allows two different sounds, such as piano and strings, to be layered together. The Split and Four-Hands playing modes divide the keyboard into two independent sections.
Virtual Technician Adjustments
Kawai’s exclusive Virtual Technician feature on the NV10S allows various characteristics of the selected acoustic piano, electric piano or harpsichord sound to be shaped from the instrument’s touchscreen display. Users can adjust voicing and regulation, string, damper and cabinet resonances and alter hammer, damper and key release noises. It is even possible to adjust the precise tuning and volume of individual notes before storing one’s favorite instrument configuration to memory.
Integrated Bluetooth Midi and Audio Connectivity
While standard MIDI jacks are built into the NV10S hybrid digital piano, it also boasts integrated Bluetooth MIDI and Audio technology. This allows the instrument to communicate with supported smart devices wirelessly. After connecting to a phone, tablet, or laptop, owners of the NV10S can enjoy Kawai’s PianoRemote app or a wide variety of music-related apps that enhance their learning and playing experience. In addition, the user can stream audio from songs and videos through the instrument’s speaker system wirelessly.
USB to Device Functionality
The Novus NV-10S hybrid digital piano has USB connectors that allow the instrument to be connected to a computer for MIDI use. It can also be used to load and save data to USB memory devices directly. The “USB to Device” feature allows standard MIDI files (SMF) to be downloaded from the internet for convenient playback without additional hardware.
USB memory devices can also be used to playback MP3 or WAV files, allowing musicians to play along with their favorite songs or to learn the chords or melody for a new piece. It is even possible to save one’s performance as an MP3 or a WAV file to email to friends, family, or teachers. Further editing of the files can be completed on an audio workstation.
Premium Audio Hardware
The Novus NV-10S is among the first Kawai musical instruments to utilize special components designed for high-end audio reproduction. Developed in collaboration with Onkyo, one of Japan’s leading premium audio manufacturers, the audio system provides the most realistic acoustic piano sounds available today.
Cutting-edge technologies such as 1-bit processing, dual DAC signal conversion, and Onkyo’s DIRDC filtering, the NV- 10S’s power amplifiers reproduce the Shigeru Kawai grand piano sound with spectacular clarity, richness, and power. The high performance Discrete SpectraModule TM headphone amplifier ensures the finest quality listening experience, even when playing in privacy.
Full-Color Touchscreen Display
The Novus NV10S features Kawai’s exclusive touch screen color display for ease of operation. Discreetly embedded in the left cheek block, this high-resolution touch screen allows sounds and settings to be selected from a user interface with the swipe of a finger. For those who wish to minimize any visual distraction, the display can turn off automatically to preserve the NV-10S’s acoustic piano-like appearance.
